The Gifts and Calling of a Holy God: The Five-Fold Offices of the Church
Who Is In Charge Here?
When you need to see a doctor, you have many options to decide on. For example, you can see a General Practitioner, or you can go see Specialist.
If you have a headache, you would not want to go to a Podiatrist. If you had a broken bone, you would not want to go to a Dentist.
If you were having a negative reaction to some new medications, you would not want to go to a Physical Therapist.
And if you wanted advice on weight loss, you would not go to a Veterinarian.
Why not? Obviously, even though all of the above individuals are considered to be “Doctors”, and they could probably give you some decent “general advice”, they are trained in different specialties.
You would want to consider their “Field of Expertise” before making an appointment.
While this sounds a little bit foolish, and none of us would actually pick a doctor that was not qualified in our particular “situation”, when it comes to understanding the Calling and “expertise” of our local “Pastors” we often make foolish decisions.
And the reason that we might make a foolish decision is because, for whatever reason, in the Christian Church almost all of the Leaders are called “Pastor”, irrespective of their actually Calling or Anointing.
Often we can belong to a local church for years and never truly understand the Pastor's heart, their vision, or even what they truly believe.
Many times, we are hurt by misunderstandings or assumptions about "the way things are." We assume everyone believes the way we do.
We judge by our intentions, while we judge others by their actions.
The Pastor's heart, their understanding of Scripture, their vision, and the Call on their life are what release the Spirit of God to move through their ministry and on to the Church.
But, many times we will blindly follow men without discerning what the Spirit of Truth is telling us.
God's Word tells us that "My people perish for lack of vision" and that "they die for lack of knowledge."
It is your responsibility to understand God's Word and His will for your life, and to pray for those in authority over you. I believe it is my responsibility to help you be able to do this.
This Book will help you to understand how the Church was designed to work … and “why” it works best when we do things the Lord’s way!
