The Gifts and Calling of a Holy God: The Five-Fold Offices of the Church

Who Is In Charge Here?

When you need to see a doctor, you have many options to decide on.  For example, you can see a General Practitioner, or you can go see Specialist.

If you have a headache, you would not want to go to a Podiatrist.  If you had a broken bone, you would not want to go to a Dentist.

If you were having a negative reaction to some new medications, you would not want to go to a Physical Therapist.

And if you wanted advice on weight loss, you would not go to a Veterinarian.

Why not?  Obviously, even though all of the above individuals are considered to be “Doctors”, and they could probably give you some decent “general advice”, they are trained in different specialties.

You would want to consider their “Field of Expertise” before making an appointment.

While this sounds a little bit foolish, and none of us would actually pick a doctor that was not qualified in our particular “situation”, when it comes to understanding the Calling and “expertise” of our local “Pastors” we often make foolish decisions.

And the reason that we might make a foolish decision is because, for whatever reason, in the Christian Church almost all of the Leaders are called “Pastor”, irrespective of their actually Calling or Anointing.

Often we can belong to a local church for years and never truly understand the Pastor's heart, their vision, or even what they truly believe.

Many times, we are hurt by misunderstandings or assumptions about "the way things are." We assume everyone believes the way we do.

We judge by our intentions, while we judge others by their actions.

The Pastor's heart, their understanding of Scripture, their vision, and the Call on their life are what release the Spirit of God to move through their ministry and on to the Church.

But, many times we will blindly follow men without discerning what the Spirit of Truth is telling us.

God's Word tells us that "My people perish for lack of vision" and that "they die for lack of knowledge."

It is your responsibility to understand God's Word and His will for your life, and to pray for those in authority over you.  I believe it is my responsibility to help you be able to do this.

This Book will help you to understand how the Church was designed to work … and “why” it works best when we do things the Lord’s way!

Discover the divine blueprint for church leadership in The Gifts and High Calling of a Holy God: The Five-Fold Ministry Offices of the Church by Dr. Steven A. Wylie.

This insightful first-edition book, released August 2025, unpacks Ephesians 4:11-12 to reveal Jesus' ascension gifts—Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers—essential for perfecting saints, ministry work, and edifying the Body of Christ.

Learn to recognize each office's unique grace: Pastors nurture with compassion, Teachers instruct in righteousness, Evangelists harvest souls, Prophets declare God's voice, and Apostles build with vision.

Avoid common pitfalls like expecting one leader to fulfill all roles, and embrace how these full-time vocations equip every believer for service.

Ideal for new Christians, seasoned leaders, and study groups, this book fosters spiritual growth, unity, and maturity.

Includes practical insights, biblical analogies (like medical specialists), and calls to action for discerning God's design.
